I wrote this last year but I think it is the perfect launching post for The Geeky Blogger since my goal is to learn, educate, and use every day to make the world a better place!
Happy International Women’s Day!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the women before me that fought for my right to have an easier path in life. The well-known, behind the scenes, and heroes that changed this world. On a personal note, my family and teachers who raised me with the attitude that with hard work, perseverance, and a never ending quest for knowledge I can do anything. The ones that instilled the work ethic to learn something new every single day and to apply that to making the world a better place. The women who taught me that obstacles were meant to be broken down and smashed. The same ones that taught me that inequality should be stood against. They armed me to go out into the world and make it my own. They also taught me to look at the next generation and see how I can make it easier for them.
I would like to thank the women of now who inspire me with their courage, independence, and resilience. Specifically the ones in my life that make the choices that are right for their life and the lives of the women in the next generation. The women that are raising the next generation to be fearless and without boundaries. The ones who empower, support, and encourage different paths for different women. The women who fight the inequality fight with grace, light, and gumption. The women who realize that lifting up and cheering the success of one, empowers the many. I am graced with many of these women in my life that give me hope and faith in the future.
I would like to encourage the next generation to study women’s history. Make a point to gather knowledge every single day and make your own path in life based on that knowledge. To surround yourself with a tribe that supports and uplifts you. One that will be there for the ups and downs. Make mistakes and choices that force you to grow. Let go of things that you cannot change but make amends whenever you can. Do not expect or stand for less than someone else doing the same thing with the same experience. Learn from those that have more experience but do not think that you have to do it their way. Pay your dues and remember you really are only entitled to what you earn. You have a bright and limitless future. Remember to leave it even easier for the next generation. It is by the grace of those before you that give you almost a duty to pay it forward.
Finally, thank you to the men that stand beside us, encourage us, and blaze trails for us. The ones that do not think their opportunities are threatened by encouraging ours. The ones who raised us to be the women we are and the ones raising the next generation of strong women.
Have a fantastic International Women’s Day! Use today to study what this day means and how you can contribute. Thank you for being the wild, wonderful, and beautiful people in my life.
